Episode 1: The DC Multiverse

Welcome to Journey Into Misery, where I explain complicated comics characters and concepts to the patient and perpetually perplexed Helena Hart.

On this first episode, we decide to start off with something manageable, so we’re focusing on the entire DC Multiverse. Going forward, it’s going to be important to explain what we mean when we say things like “Pre-Crisis” and “New 52” so instead of adding a disclaimer, we dedicated the first episode to covering as much of it as we could.

You can listen to JOURNEY INTO MISERY a number of ways, including Libsyn, iTunes or Stitcher. Alternatively, you could just click play on that little button below

  • Jay Garrick and Barry Allen fight The Fiddler, The Shade and The Thinker in their first team-up, and not The Riddler, The Shade and The Thinker.
  • I accidentally referred to Zero Hour as Zero Year. Zero Year is the recent Scott Snyder/Greg Capullo retelling of Bruce Wayne’s first days as Batman and has nothing to do with the Crisis in Time.
  • There were a few times during the Infinite Crisis segment when I referred to Superman of Earth-2 as Superman of Earth-1.

  1. I’ve been looking forward to this first episode ever since you pitched it on Twitter, and it was a pretty fantastic first episode. I’m looking forward through your further adventures into the land of continuity.

I also have a character request. Can you cover the Marvel UK bounty hunt-er, acquisitions expert Death’s Head? He’s not the biggest name character sure, but his journey from supporting character in the UK Transformers comics to main universe by way of Dr. Who and two different future timelines is kinda fascinating.
